Golf: Spaniard Miguel Angel Jimenez set a European Tour record for career holes-in-one during the third round of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth yesterday. The 51-year-old went to eight-under-par for the tournament, two behind joint leaders Francesco Molinari of Italy, Thai Thongchai Jaidee and South Korean An Byeong Hun, when he aced the 154-yard second. It was his 10th hole-in-one and took him past Briton Colin Montgomerie’s tally of nine.

Snooker: Top players including Jimmy White will be competing in the qualifying rounds of a world ranking event next month. The qualifiers of the Australian Goldfields Open, the first ranking event of the 2015/16 season, will take place at K2 Crawley between June 1 and 5. Among the famous green baize kings in action will be White, former world champions Ken Doherty and Peter Ebdon, and two-time world finalist Ali Carter. In all, there will be 112 players in the field.

Basket, NBA: Los Angeles Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak created some buzz by saying future Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant had told him that next season would be his last with the Lakers. “He has indicated to me that this is it,” Kupchak said about Bryant. Bryant, who will turn 37 ahead of his 20th NBA season and is returning from shoulder surgery that ended his 2014-15 campaign in January, is scheduled to make a league-high $25 million in completing a two-year contract extension worth $48.5 million. The Lakers struggled to a 21-61 record last season and own the second overall pick in next month’s NBA Draft.
