A number of free mole assessment consultations will be offered by Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre, in collaboration with its team of dermatologists, throughout this month, dedicated to melanoma awareness.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops from melanin-producing cells. Aggre-ssive forms of melanoma can spread to almost any organ in the body, so detecting it at an early stage is crucial.

The biggest risk for developing melanoma is sun damage.

Local dermatologists have seen a sharp rise in cases of melanoma over the last years. Experts indicate that this rise is due to factors such as the depletion of the ozone layer, tanning beds and sun tanning.

The good news is that melanoma, if detected early, is treatable. Therefore, an important element in fighting melanoma is self-examination.

For protection against the harmful effect of UV radiation, it is recommended that one avoids the sunniest hours of the day. Persona is offering a free sunscreen with the purchase of one SkinCeuticals’ antioxidant product. It will also be donating five per cent of SkinCeuticals sales to Hospice Malta.

SkinCeuticals can be purchased online from www.persona.com.mt, by calling 2134 0366 or e-mailing info@persona.com.mt.
