A casket containing the relics of St John Bosco was taken to Gozo last Sunday at the end of a four-day visit to the Maltese islands. The relic is currently touring the world as part of celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of Don Bosco’s birth.

During the first three days the relic was taken to various youth centres, schools and other locations around Malta where the Salesians of Don Bosco offer their services. The Salesians have been in Malta since the beginning of the 20th century.

After being welcomed by Gozo Bishop Mario Grech in Republic Street, Victoria, a procession with the casket took place through the streets of Victoria from the Salesian Sisters’ home to the Don Bosco oratory, accompanied by Victoria Scout Group.

At the oratory chapel a youth celebration was held. The relics were then taken to Ta’ Pinu sanctuary for public veneration, prayers for the sick, a prayer meeting for priests and consecrated people, and a Mass led by Xewkija archpriest Carmel Mercieca.
