Keane: Robbie Keane’s return to action after seven weeks out with a groin injury inspired Los Angeles Galaxy to a 1-0 Major League Soccer victory over Houston Dynamo on Friday night. The veteran Ireland captain set up Alan Gordon for a second-half stoppage-time header that proved enough to help the Galaxy end their five-game winless streak. There was still time after Gordon’s strike for Los Angeles left-back Oscar Sorto, on his first MLS start, to be sent off for a tackle from behind on Dynamo defender David Horst.

Lengthy ban: Former Uruguay international Fabian Estoyanoff has been banned for six matches by the Asian Football Confederation after attacking South Korean Nam Tae-hee following an AFC Champions League defeat earlier this month. Al Nassr midfielder Estoyanoff chased Nam down the tunnel, grabbed him from behind and threw punches before being dragged away after the Saudi champions’ 3-1 home loss to Qatari outfit Lekhwiya on May 6. Nam had scored the second and won a penalty for the third goal in the victory which sent Al Nassr out of the competition.

Pantilimon: Goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon is out of Sunderland’s final game of the Premier League season at Chelsea this afternoon. The Romanian damaged a knee in Wednesday night’s 0-0 draw at Arsenal which secured the club’s top-flight status and will miss out at Stamford Bridge. He could be joined by striker Danny Graham, who is nursing an ankle problem.

Renard: Two-time Africa Cup-winning coach Herve Renard has left his role with Ivory Coast as reports linking him with the Lille job gather momentum. The 46-year-old Frenchman guided the Elephants to glory in Equatorial Guinea having previously clinched the cup with Zambia in 2012, but he now looks set to return to club management in his homeland. “After this success, I’ve told myself that it will be difficult to do any better and that I had to find another challenge,” he told reporters.
