Q: A few days ago, I ordered two packs of a diet product from a local website. The seller sent me an invoice and to date I only gave him my name, telephone number and the address of the office I work at. I did not give my credit card details because he said I’d have to pay in cash when the products were delivered.

Two days later, I read on a social media site that these products are a scam and do not really work. I have therefore sent an e-mail to the online seller that I changed my mind and no longer want the products ordered.

The seller replied that this was not possible because he had already dispatched the order into the courier system and that I had to proceed with the purchase.

I would like to know whether I am obliged to pay for the products if the seller shows up at my workplace? Can I refuse to pay?

A: Since you ordered the diet products online and not from the seller’s business premises, you are legally entitled to a cancellation period of 14 days.

During this period of time you are legally entitled to change your mind and cancel the sale without incurring any penalties or charges.

Since the products have not been delivered to you when you cancelled the sale, you cannot be asked to return the products to the seller or pay to have them returned.
