The Ian Tomlin Malta/Napier Music Scholarship Trust will be presenting A Tale of Two Cities, a series of events all taking place on Saturday to promote its work in furthering education in Classical Music Studies.

The Ian Tomlin Malta/Napier Scholarship Trust was set up in 1999 by philanthropist Ian Tomlin to help young Maltese musicians to further their training in classical music at the Ian Tomlin School of Music, Edinburgh Napier University.

To date, the trust has helped a number of composers, instrumentalists and singers pursue their careers in music.

A Tale of Two Cities provides an opportunity for young musicians and the public to get to know the trust and its work. The first session starts 4.30pm where Veronique Vella, Gisele Grima and Alex Vella Gregory, three established musicians and Tomlin scholars, share their experiences about studying abroad.

This session is aimed at all those interested in studying abroad and is relevant even to other disciplines. The participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions.

The second session will see Vella, Grima and Vella Gregory present their research and work in their respective fields. Vella will outline her work with dance, whereas Grima will focus on creativity and music in a primary school setting. Vella Gregory will talk about KantaKantun, an education project on music and architecture currently underway with Valletta 2018.

The day will end with a recital featuring two current Ian Tomlin Scholars, flautist Clara Galea and violinist Pierre Louis Attard. The recital features a selection of chamber works by Martinu, Bloch and others. The recital will also feature pianists Gisele Grima and Alex Vella Gregory.

The event will be held on Saturday at Palazzo de la Salle, Valletta. Entry to the forum and lecture is €5 and tickets for the recital cost €10. A €15 block ticket is available for all three events. For reservations call on 9984 0055 or 9989 1770.
