Italian singer Marco Masini and his band will be giving a concert in Malta as part of his current tour.

Masini made his first appearance at the Festival di Sanremo in 1990, when he came first in the new singers category with the song Disperato.

One year later, the singer placed third in the established singers category with his controversial song Perche’ Lo Fai, a song on the issue of drug addiction.

In 2000, Masini participated again with Raccontami di Te, while in 2004 he won the festival for the second time with L’uomo Volante.

Masini won the Best Live Video category in the Riminicinema Festival in 1991 with the musical video album Malinconoia.

His album, T’innamorerai was an enormous success which sold more than one million copies worldwide. The album included the controversial Vaffanculo.

In 1995, Masini produced the album Il Cielo Della Vergine, which opened the door to international fame for him. With this fame came strong criticism for songs like Principessa, included in the album.

However, the criticism did not damage the singer, who went on to become an international icon for those who wished to defy the system of the day.

To date, Masini remains one of Italy’s biggest pop icons, also enjoying a big following in Malta.

Masini performs on Friday at 8.30pm at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta. The event is being organised by CMC Promotions.
