Three burglars who barged into a Gżira house early on Thursday morning
threatened two women that they would slit their throats and burn them alive if they called the police.

The burglars later escaped with some cash and a car belonging to one of the women. Within hours the police arrested a 15-year-old on suspicion of involvement. Two men, aged 19 and 22 and born in Libya, were arrested later.

“There were three men. They asked for cash and drugs but we had none. One was Maltese and the other two seemed to be of Arab origin,” one of the women, 68, said.

“One of the foreigners told us they would slit our throat like a lamb if we caused trouble for them and called police. The Maltese man told us he would burn us alive. Since it happened I’ve been shaken and feeling unsafe.”

The woman said she was in bed dozing off when the incident happened. The other woman, a 41-year-old prostitute, was standing at the door waiting for clients when the men pushed her in and demanded money.
