A father and his son who intervened in an argument ended up in court yesterday after a man was hospitalised with a fractured temple.

The fight, which the police said was the culmination of a long-term dispute, happened in Narbona Square, Qormi at 7.30pm on Thursday.

Joseph Bezzina, a 58-year-old bus driver, and his son Steven, 26, a foreman with a furniture firm, both of Qormi, pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring Ephraim Bezzina.

Sources close to the investigation said an argument began between Ephraim Bezzina and Joseph Bezzina’s son who called both his father and his brother asking for help.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea heard the father and son denying the charges.

They were granted bail against a deposit of €500 each and a personal guarantee of €2,000 each. They were also ordered to sign the bail book three times a week and to be home by 10pm every day.

Moreover, the court issued a protection order covering the alleged victim.

Police Inspector Roderick Agius prosecuted.

Lawyer Yanica Caruana represented the accused.
