Obviously, the appointment of Joe Mifsud and Monica Vella, similarly to those of Wenzu Mintoff as a judge, raised some eyebrows, especially among Nationalist sympathisers.

I’ve known both Mifsud and Mintoff for quite some time and I also know Joseph Cassar, a former parliamentary secretary, who was appointed during a Nationalist administration, as well as others who were also Nationalist Party activists.

In 1983, while at the Maċina, someone stopped me and told me that Albert Borg Olivier de Puget had been sworn in as magistrate. As part of my duties in those times was attending court sittings, I was present for some of his sittings. In my opinion, he did his duty very well.

Very few know that, a few weeks earlier, he had delivered a speech at the Nationalist Party club in Paola.
