CARUANA. On May 20, at Boffa Hospital, ANGELA née Di Rubbo, of Tal-Virtù, Rabat, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband George, her daughters Sandra and her husband Richard Sladden and Marielouise and her partner Daniel Galea, her grandchildren Alec, Gabriel, Michela and Eva, her brothers Antonio and his wife Luciana, and Lorenzo and his wife Elena, her in-laws Joe and his wife Rose, Philip and his wife Kate and Ben and his wife Grace, nephews and nieces, many other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30pm for St Dominic church, Rabat, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3pm followed by interment in the family grave at Żebbuġ Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

FARRUGIA. On May 19, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTON of Victoria, Gozo, aged 88, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his beloved wife, Ursula, née Abela, his children, Maria and her husband Grazio Mercieqa, Joseph and his wife Miriam, Emanuel, and John and his wife Charmaine, his adored grandchildren, Deborah and her husband Alan, Caroline and her husband Adrian, Anton, Elena, Lara, Michael Edward and his fiancée Francesca, Kristina, Susannah, Emma, Luke, and his great-grandchild Leah, his brother Mgr. Joseph Farrugia, his sister Maria, his brother Louis and his wife Doris, his sister-in-law Victoria, numerous in-laws, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves lower Republic Street, Victoria, today at 3.45pm, accompanied by the Leone Philharmonic Society Band, of which he was Honorary President. Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 4.30pm at the Gozo Cathedral, Victoria, followed by interment at the Santa Marija Cemetery. The family thank the staff and doctors at the CCU, Gozo General Hospital, and ward M5, Mater Dei Hospital, for their dedication and care. The family are also thankful to the many who have sent their condolences and expressed sentiments of appreciation for his life’s work. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MALLIA. On May 21, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIO of Attard, residing in Xemxija, aged 63, passed away after a long illness, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Sadly missed by his beloved wife Louise, his daughter Jodie, grandchildren Emmett and Tyson, his parents Simon and Carmen, his brothers and sisters, their respective spouses, his sister-in-law Vicky and her son Dean, uncles and aunties, cousins, nephews and nieces, many relatives and friends in Malta, England and Australia. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Monday, May 25 at 2.30pm for St Mary’s parish church, Attard, where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 3pm, followed by interment at Attard cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Hospice Malta, Balzan, and Puttinu Cares Children’s Cancer Support Group, Rainbow Ward, Mater Dei Hospital, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

VELLA. On May 20, at Casa Leone XIII, St Julian’s, MARIA DOLORES (Dolly), of Sliema, widow of Carmel, passed away peacefully at the venerable age of 102, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her only brother Joseph Farrugia and her in-laws, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral Mass will be said today at Casa Leone XIII chapel where Mass præsente cadavere will be said at 2.30pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but Donations to St Joseph Home, St Venera, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Talk on Breast Cancer

Malta Café Scientifique and the Research Trust of the University of Malta are organising a talk called Surviving & Thriving: Breast Cancer Research in Malta on Monday at 7.30pm, at the Palace, Valletta.

Christian Scerri, Godfrey Grech and Shawn Baldacchino will be talking about the latest breast cancer research.
