A man suffered a fractured temple after receiving blows with a wheel wrench during an argument in Qormi yesterday evening, the court heard today.

Magistrate Charmaine Galea heard how yesterday's was the escalation of a long-term dispute which ended up with a father and son being charged in court over the incident.

Joseph Bezzina, a 58-year-old bus driver and his son Steven, a 26-year-old foreman with a furniture firm, both of Qormi, pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring Ephraim Bezzina during the fight.

The involved parties are not related.

The two men were granted bail against a deposit of €500 each and a personal guarantee of €2,000 each. They have also been ordered to sign the bail book three times a week and to be home by 10pm everyday.

Moreover, the court issued a protection order in favour of the alleged victim.

Police Inspector Roderick Agius prosecuted while lawyer Yanica Caruana represented the defendants.
