Maltese photographer Jan Zammit, who has been chronicling the aftermath of the two big earthquakes in Nepal, has joined rescue missions which flew out from Kathmandu distributing food to survivors in outlying villages. 

"Our first stop was Sertung, a tiny mountain village north of Dhading District close to the Tibetan border. Aid hadn't reached that village yet," he told Times of Malta.

"As soon as we landed, villagers welcomed us with faces of desperation as well as relief that  they were finally getting overdue help.

"We then headed back to Dhading District to pick up more supplies.

"Our second mission was to an even smaller village in the Himalayas called Tipling. It was the same situation - no supplies had reached the village before today.

"People were so desperate that they could be seen running to the helicopter, their faces filled with joy and relief.

"We also picked up some sick patients and others who's homes were completely destroyed and evacuated them to Kathmandu."
