Four security cameras will be installed in areas known for illegal dumping in the coming months as part of an anti-littering campaign.

Transport and infrastructure minister Joe Mizzi said one camera had already been installed in Il-Foss, Żabbar. The campaign will function in collaboration with the police to ensure effective investigation and enforcement.

The national anti-littering campaign, Għalfejn Tħammeġ Pajjiżek (‘Why dirty your country’) has brought an investment of €300,000 in cleaning equipment in the last year, while the frequency of cleaning has doubled or even tripled in certain tourist areas.

Mr Mizzi said the Cleansing Directorate had collected 14,600 tons of waste last year, an increase of 33 per cent over 2013, while its corporate image had been upgraded.
