The Sette Giugno cruise to Pozzallo, organised by the Malta Cruising Club (MCC), is this year on its third running and expected to see a bigger fleet than the 17 boats of the 2014 edition.

For this friendly water-sport activity, non-members are welcome to join the club on what is regarded as an enjoyable all-family event.

The Pozzallo section of Lega Navale are once again extending their collaboration to the “Veleggiata dei Cavalieri 2015”, as the cruise, being held under the patronage of the Comune of Pozzallo, is referred to on the finish side of the 93km itinerary.

The start procedure followed in the past editions is again being adopted whereby each boat leaves port at its cruising speed.

This means that if a boat cruises at six-and-a-half knots, it will leave at 6.30am, a boat that does seven knots leaves at 7am.

Such procedure should have participating boats within sight of each other for most of the trip where all boats should arrive at Pozzallo early in the afternoon.

This year the Sette Giugno cruise starts on June 5. On Saturday, the Maltese yachts will be joined by others from Sicily for a sail along the Pozzallo coast.

This event will feature a stirring novelty.

In fact, each boat will host two young schoolchildren who most probably will be enjoying their first taste of sailing.

The cadets, aged between 10 and 12 years, attend the General Institute of Education Antonio Amore of Pozzallo.

This initiative will not only prove exciting to the young sailors from Pozzallo but also to members of their families and friends who will be following their progress from the shoreline.

On June 7, Mass will be held at the Lega Navale Sezione di Pozzallo clubhouse, where the MCC yachts will be berthed, before the trip back home.
