Fabinho: Brazilian defender Fabinho will be staying with Ligue 1 club AS Monaco until June 2019 under a deal with his parent club Rio Ave. The 21-year-old right back, called up by Brazil for this year’s Copa America, has been on loan for the past two seasons at Monaco, who are third in the Ligue 1 standings. Vadim Vasilyev, Monaco’s vice-president, said the club were delighted to have agreed a long-term deal with a very promising young player.

Girard: Rene Girard is standing down as coach of Lille, the French Ligue 1 club said yesterday. Girard will leave on friendly terms after two years in charge and he will bow out after Saturday’s match against Metz. Lille are eighth in the standings and L’Equipe said that Ivory Coast coach Herve Renard was favourite to take over.

Gaffe: Wembley Stadium apologised to Middlesbrough yesterday for spelling the club’s name wrong on tickets for next week’s Championship play-off final. “Wembley Stadium would like to apologise to Middlesbrough Football Club and its fans for this mistake, it was a human error,” Wembley said. The mistake, in which the name was incorrectly spelt “Middlesborough”, did not deter fans who snapped up all 38,000 available tickets to watch their team try to reach the Premier League for the first time since 2009.

Lasogga: Hamburg can count on striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga for their season finale against Schalke after the forward returned to training yesterday following a shoulder injury. Lasogga had hurt his shoulder in their 2-1 loss at Stuttgart on Saturday, a result that left the club faced with their first ever Bundesliga relegation.

Mowbray: Coventry boss Tony Mowbray has signed a new two-year deal which will extend his stay with the Sky Blues until at least 2017. Mowbray joined the League One club on a short-term contract in March and steered them to safety.
