A 30-year-old Somali man was conditionally discharged for a year and fined €100 after he admitted to urinating near the St Andrew's bus stop yesterday morning.

Jibril Ismail Jibril, who lives in Gozo, was on a bus from Cirkewwa to Valletta when, during the ride, he got a strong urge to use the toilet, sources said.

When the bus arrived in St Andrew's, at about 9.10am, his bladder could no longer take the pressure so he got off the bus and urinated near the bus stop - to the shock of other passengers who were getting on the bus and alighting.

When Mr Jibril finished his business he tried to get back into the bus to continue his journey to Valletta but was stopped by the bus driver who called the police.

This morning he apologised for his actions and said that, next time, he would find a toilet.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef prosecuted while legal aid lawyer Noel Bartolo represented the accused.
