Napoli kept their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League next season alive, although they were made to work hard for a 3-2 win over Cesena last night.
Without their coach Rafael Benitez, who was sitting out a one-game ban, the Azzurri fell behind to a Gregoire Defrel goal after 15 minutes.
Dries Mertens and Manolo Gabbiadini replied with two goals in as many minutes turning the game around, but Defrel struck again just before half-time.
Another Mertens strike in the 57th minute was enough to earn Napoli a crucial win, taking them back to within three points of third-placed Lazio, the side they face at home on the final day of the season in what could be a decider for a place in the Champions League.
Earlier, Fiorentina made it three Serie A wins in a row and moved up to fifth in the standings by beating relegated Parma 3-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Goals from Alberto Gilardino, Gonzalo Rodriguez and Mohamed Salah went some way to erasing the disappointment of their Europa League exit to Sevilla as La Viola moved a step closer to returning to the competition next season.
Just one win from their final two matches against Palermo and Chievo will see Vincenzo Montella’s men secure a top-six finish and a place in Europe next season.
