One Direction have admitted they were angry when they found out former bandmate Zayn Malik was leaving as they made their first TV talk show appearance as a foursome.

The superstar boyband appeared on American talk show the Late Late Show with James Corden, where they revealed the anger and sadness they felt when they found out they were losing a founding member.

Asked by Corden if he had been in touch with Malik since his departure was announced on March 25, Louis Tomlinson said: “There has been a bit of back and forth, we are on good terms with him.”

Addressing a hostile exchange he had on Twitter with his former bandmate, he added: “I’ve never been very good at biting my tongue. Maybe I get it from my mum. It is one of those things.

“Twitter is great for connecting with the fans but if you also feel like saying something you probably shouldn’t, it is good for that, or bad in this case. But it’s all resolved, it’s all good in the hood.”

Liam Payne said that, even though they were disappointed, they all understood his feelings.

He told Corden: “At first we were a little bit angry, obviously. We were surprised but I think we all knew the vibe Zayn was feeling.

“You could sort of tell, from the outside people could tell as well.

“There were certain parts of this job that Zayn loved and certain parts that he didn’t. If you don’t like the job, you have to follow your heart sometimes and go where you need to go and there is no arguing with that.

“Like I say, we were angry at first but then it was just a bit more disappointed, but we wish him the best of luck with whatever he gets up to and there is no hard feelings, it is just going to carry on as usual.”

Niall Horan calmed the fears of fans by assuring them there was no chance of the rest of the group disbanding.

“The four of us love every part of it. Things have been great on the tour and the fans have been great to us, they deserve it, they have been fantastic to us.

“The four of us enjoy every aspect of it, the shows have been great and we are in the studio at the minute and we are looking forward to bringing out a new record and going on more tours and we are really enjoying it.”
