British holiday company Butlin’s has unveiled old-style chalets but with plenty of mod cons in a £16 million development.

Based on the design by company founder Sir Billy Butlin, the 117 lakeside chalets are set in 8.8 acres of landscaped gardens at Butlin’s Minehead resort in Somerset.

Coloured pastel pink, blue or yellow, the chalets are two, three or four-bedroomed with many having balconies and verandas.

Guests have free Wi-Fi, a DVD player, L-shaped family sofas and family boardgames, with Butlin's having worked with website Mumsnet on deciding the best things to go into the chalets.

Butlin’s managing director Dermot King said: “We're committed to continually innovating our offering.

“As part of this innovation, we’ve re-imagined the iconic chalet – first introduced by Billy Butlin in 1936 and now reinvented for modern families.

“With the help of Mumsnet, we’ve created accommodation with high-quality features that deliver colour and happiness, come rain or shine.”
