I refer to the letter ‘Blasting birds from the sky is not a sport’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, May 10).

I have all the respect for anyone with a different opinion with regard to hunting, but insinuating that hunters are insane just because you happen to be against the shooting of wild birds is unacceptable.

I cannot answer Sean Whyte’s question as to what satisfaction hunters gain from shooting birds, but allow me to direct the same question to him. What right do hunters in the UK think they have to kill birds by applying for more than 2,000 derogations to the EU?

What right do they think they have to shoot foxes? Imagine if these birds and foxes had guns to defend themselves, how would these hunters then feel?

I would like to remind my friend that Malta was under British rule for 164 years and hunting was always allowed by the authorities.

Finally, it is worth putting on record that tourism in Malta is booming year after year and one less person would not make a difference.
