Anne Zammit’s article ‘Some hunters just can’t help it’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, May 10) shows that some bird protectionists are intolerant. Following a democratic referendum that determined the future of spring hunting she states: “The government should at least opt to give spring back to the other half of the country (which voted No in the referendum).”
The exemplary behaviour of 10,000 hunters cannot be judged by the illicit actions of a few. Regarding hunters who are not prepared to accept change, incarceration and heavy fines are proving their worth.
As for those who want to abolish hunting, no democratic referendum, compromise or widespread compliance can change their ways. They will remain living in their own bubble and refuse to seek consensus.
