With reference to Sean Whyte’s letter (The Sunday Times of Malta, May 10), I do not want to go into the merit of what is wrong or right about hunting. However, I am offended when a foreigner criticises my country when there is a lot more to criticise about his own country.

Does Whyte know that geese migrating from Canada get blasted out of the sky as soon as they arrive in the UK?

And what about the pheasants, partridges, grouse and other game birds that are bred and pampered by gamekeepers for about nine months before they are killed?

Perhaps Whyte is not concerned about the above as royalty also take part in this sport. Has Whyte ever wondered from where the wood pigeons on a lot of restaurants’ menus come from? Then there are the wild rabbits and other so-called vermin that are slaughtered all the year round even when rearing their offspring.

He also ought to find out about some of the illegalities that occur, one of which is badger baiting, when the badger’s jaw is broken so it can’t bite before the dogs are set on it.

One good point Whyte made in his letter is that he will never set foot in Malta again.
