Frosinone: Frosinone coach Roberto Stellone was overjoyed at seeing his team secure their historic debut promotion into Serie A. The Gialloblu beat Crotone 3-1 yesterday afternoon and book their spot in the top flight with a second consecutive promotion. “I thank everyone who allowed this to happen, from my staff to the players. These results are down to the group,” he said.

New York: New York City FC snapped a four-match losing streak on Friday with a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire. The Fire looked to be in complete control after half an hour following Razvan Cocis’ 14th-minute opener and Jeff Larentowitcz’s penalty after 27 minutes, with R.J Allen sent off for the home side. But City fought back and Mehdi Ballouchy netted on the stroke of half-time before Khiry Shelton’s goal in stoppage-time snatched a point.

Henriquez: Chile striker Angelo Henriquez produced his best performance for Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb after scoring a second-half hat-trick in a 4-0 home rout of traditional rivals Hajduk Split yesterday. The 21-year old was signed by Manchester United in 2012 but has never played for the Premier League giants and was loaned to Dinamo last year after spells at Wigan Athletic and Spanish side Real Zaragoza.

Egypt Ultras: An Egyptian court yesterday outlawed popular soccer fan clubs known as “Ultras” which have played a role in political demonstrations and violence since Egypt‘s 2011 uprising. The reasons for the ruling, which can be appealed, were not immediately clear. But the decision risks sparking an anti-government backlash among the thousands of highly politicised young men nationwide who claim membership.

Brentford: Brentford have appointed the chairman of Danish league leaders FC Midtyjlland as a co-director of football as the latest step in their mission to earn Premier League status. Rasmus Ankersen will share duties with fellow incoming co-director of football Phil Giles, who is head of quantitative sports research at Smartodds.
