Adrian Buttigieg is the new executive chef of The Waterfront Hotel in Gżira. The 29-year-old has extensive experience in the five-star hotel catering business both in Malta and abroad and has won various awards.

Buttigieg started out his career with a distinction in Higher National Diploma in Culinary Arts from the Institute of Tourism Studies, specialising in creating hot and cold dishes from both national and ethnic cuisines, desserts and baked products. He also worked in Luxembourg under Michelin-star chef Cyril Molard for a year.

He won various local and international awards, including Junior Chef of the Year in 2007, organised by the Malta Chef Society, and formed part of the junior national team of chefs the following year. He later moved to the senior chef team and competed locally and abroad. Last year, he won the bronze medal at the Culinary World Cup Luxembourg.

“We are proud to have Adrian heading our kitchen brigade and taking the food experience we offer to the next level, both for our hotel guests and the many patrons who visit our outlets,” said the hotel’s general manager Mario de Celis.

“He has been handpicked not only for his creativity in the kitchen, but also for his leadership qualities, which are crucial when it comes to managing our 25-strong kitchen team.”

Buttigieg will be responsible for the Regatta and Basilico restaurants and Star Cafe at The Waterfront, as well as Seasons Event Caterers, an outside catering company that forms part of the Mizzi organisation.

The Waterfront Hotel is launching new summer menus across its outlets in the coming weeks.
