The Seashells Resort at the Suncrest in Qawra opened its doors after undergoing a major revamp.

Vivendo orchestrated this multi-million project, part of a five-year refurbishment programme undertaken by AX Group.

Preparations for the upgrading of 452 rooms spread over seven floors began in earnest after the winning design for the new look was chosen by AX Group.

As envisioned by designer Penny Apap Brown, the new Seashells Resort radiates a fresh and bright look with stylish and modern white gloss and wood finish, designed to uplift guests’ spirits through an enhanced sense of space that feels intimate and comfortable.

A sample room based on the design was set up inside the hotel and extensively tested by AX management and staff before green lighting the project.

The refurbishment project saw the initial gutting of all the hotel rooms and setting up of templates over the pre-planned winter closure period. This laborious manual process saw the staff go over every one of the bare, windowless rooms in the hotel.

This was made significantly harder since the stripped-down building was completely exposed to the fierce storms and wind in December and lacked lift facilities to facilitate movement of equipment from one floor to the next.

Containers with the new furniture and doors arrived on site in early December. Each room has been fitted with Italian-made Aran Newform furniture. About 1,200 Polish-made Porta doors built to E130/E160 fire-retardant standards were shipped and fitted by three teams of Italian door installers.
