Orange from St Aloysius’ College has won the Junior Achievement (Young Enterprise) Company of the Year competition and will be representing Malta in the European finals to be held in Berlin in July.

The company will be competing with a mobile app called Sel Feed that allows restaurant patrons to avail themselves of discounts when sharing their food experiences via social media.

The HSBC company programme rewards students from sixth form colleges for their efforts during the eight-month competition during which participants set up their own mini-company, raise share capital, launch and market their idea and distribute dividends.

This year, 13 teams from G.F. Abela Junior College, St Aloysius’ College, Verdala International School, De La Salle College, St Martin’s College, St Edward’s College and Mcast Institute of Business and Commerce, participated.

Apart from competing for the title of Company of the Year, they also vie for eight awards sponsored by leading local organisations:

The Best Business Plan Award, supported by Deloitte, was won by the company Actons from Verdala International School;

The Best Use of Technology Award, supported by Playmobil was won by Conexus (Junior College);

The Best Implementation of Marketing and Sales Strategies Award, supported by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, was also won by Orange;

The Best Presentation Award, supported by Vsquared, was won by Current from De La Salle College; The Best HR & Operations Award, supported by Farsons, was won by Fusion (St Aloysius College);

The Social Enterprise Award, supported by Microsoft, was won by Hive (Junior College);

The Best Presented Financial Statements Award, supported by Deloitte, was won by Bluebloom (Verdala International School);

The Adpro Award for Best Quality System, supported by Adpro Instruments Ltd, was also won by Orange;

Deloitte also chose two students for a summer internship – Malcolm Manara from De La Salle College and Emma Gatt from St Aloysius’ College.

The Philip Bonett Award for Perseverance – in the name of an alumni and past board member – was won by Top North, from Mcast’s Institute of Business and Commerce.

Apart from these awards, Lorna Farrugia was also recognised with the John Harper Award for her long-serving commitment and contribution towards the organisation.
