The Seashells Resort at Suncrest in Qawra has been officially reopened after a €7 million revamp by AX Hotels.
Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis reopened the 452-room, four-star hotel, which is now expected to remain open throughout the year and not close for the winter, as was done in previous years.
Dr Zammit Lewis said the investment in the Seashells Resort would contribute to higher standards for the tourism product in Qawra.
The minister said the investment was further evidence of confidence in the tourism industry's future, supported by very good performance figures for the first nine months of this year.
He especially welcomed the fact that the number of tourist arrivals was growing in the winter and shoulder months. This was the result of a government strategy, which included the way Malta was marketed.
AX Hotels chairman Anglu Xuereb said the hotel works were carried out by just over 350 workers in five months, and included the complete stripping and re-fitting of all the 452 rooms along with new electrical circuits and tiling. The resort was also fitted with eight new high speed lifts, eco-friendly systems, new room management systems, a new plant room and new air-conditioning system.
“This complements the €550,000 investment done last year on a new main kitchen, with state of the art equipment as well as a refurbished main restaurant - the Coral Cove."
