Some 9,500 people visited the newly restored Fort St Elmo during an open day on Sunday, Heritage Malta said.

The open day was held following the extensive restoration project and the official re-opening of the Fort the previous Friday.

Those who visited were treated to a free In Guardia parade, an artisan market, tours of the site and the new National War Museum and reenactments.

The next Heritage Malta open day is at the Malta Maritime Museum on May 17.

Titled “Dawn of the Great Siege - Life at Sea 2015”, the event will be marking the first of a series by Heritage Malta to commemorate the 450th anniversary from the Great Siege of 1565.
