Much has been said lately about the proposed shooting range near Mount St Joseph. I fully understand and, moreover, sympathise with those who have expressed concern about this project, mainly because of the loud noises that will interfere with the serenity of this beautiful place. This is not a place run by Jesuits for Jesuits. This is a place run by Jesuits for whoever needs to spend some time in a quiet and peaceful place.

Adults as well as students make good use of the place. The camping site is unique. The atmosphere surrounding the site is peaceful and quiet. The rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds are the sounds that people wake up to on an overnight stay, away from the usual hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Whoever has not experienced the beauty of this place cannot really understand what we are about to lose if the shooting range project goes ahead.

Let us choose wisely the venue of such so-called ‘investments’. Let us first think whether such ‘investments’ are really needed in this small country of ours.

Let us not ruin Mount St Joseph.

And, finally, let us not hinder the energetic Jesuits from the sterling work they are presently doing.
