While many complaints are being received about car drivers being stuck in traffic adjacent to the Gżira bus lane, quite often, both lanes are actually empty as this headcam shot of the bus lane at 6.45 on a Friday morning clearly shows.

Both lanes were moving smoothly with relatively light traffic, including a bus.

The congestion at the junction past Manoel Island bridge has always been there and has more to do with its being unable to cope with the great number of cars and any delays rather than the bus lane itself.

Getting people onto buses and out of cars won’t work overnight unless we can make it make sense to use the bus by giving it a head start.

When people do start to move onto the bus all other traffic will start to move more quickly. That’s something worth investing in and it’s good for all drivers.
