European Commissioner Karmenu Vella visited the Magħtab waste management site today, where a biological plant is being constructed.

The new plant will turn the organic contents of ordinary rubbish bags into biogas producing some six gigawatts of electricity every year - enough to fully power the plant.

Mr Vella said the €60 million project was the largest waste programme on the island and would treat some 67,000 tons of waste.
