Dramatic scenes during a horse race in Peru after a spectator was fatally injured near the finish line as he walks onto the track.

Horse racing fan Faustino Landeo, 50, died in hospital after the collision with a horse and his jockey in Acobamba, some 450 km (279 miles) east of Lima.

The spectator died from severe trauma and respiratory failure, according to reports.

The jockey was also injured and given medical attention but is expected to make a full recovery.

It is not known why the spectator walked onto the track.

Reports have emerged that he was on the phone and intoxicated, but authorities have yet to confirm an official version of events.
