Two men, from Serbia and Mascedonia, were each given a suspended jail term after they admitted to making use of forged entry and exit stamps on their passports.

Police Inspector Mario Haber told Magistrate Carol Peralta that this was another in a series of arraignments of Eastern Europeans, especially Serbs, caught with forged stamps during police routine inspections.

Serbian Ivan Senci, 29, and Macedonian Igor Stojchevski, 23, who both live in St Julian, admitted to making use of the forged stamps on and before May 4.

Lawyers Shazoo Ghaznavi and Robert Galea, for Mr Senci, said their client married a Bulgarian woman in Malta less than a week ago and was in the process of getting documents as the spouse of an EU citizen.

Both men were given a one year jail term suspended for a year.

Magistrate Carol Peralta told the men that the suspended jail term was not to be taken lightly as it still impacted their criminal records.

Lawyer Noel Bartolo represented Mr Stojchevski.
