The Nationalist Party said today that while it welcomed all investment in the education sector, it would like to  know more details about the new American University of Malta.

Shadow Minister Therese Comodini Cachia said that while investment should be encouraged, no discrimination should be created against people who had already invested in the sector.

She asked what Maltese assets would be handed to the foreign investors and said development should not take place outside development zones.

Public land should be used for public entities and not by handed to foreign private businesses for their profit. This would be a form of discrimination against those who bought private land to invest in educational establishments.

Dr Comodini Cachia also urged the government to ensure the sustainability of the University of Malta, Mcast and ITS while granting them more autonomy.
