Only 25 people were arraigned in court charged with smart meter tampering and electricity theft, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said this evening.

Replying to a Parliamentary question by shadow minister Jason Azzopardi, the minister said all were arraigned at Enemalta’s request.

When the scandal broke a year ago, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi said that about 1,000 meters were found to have been tampered with.

An amnesty was offered and 428 consumers applied to benefit.
