Air strikes by fighter jets from the Saudi-led coalition have left the main airport runways in the Yemeni capital Sanaa littered with burning jets.

The air strikes came just a day after coalition jets struck Sanaa's al Dulaimi military airbase, destroying the last remaining landing strips in the war-torn country.

The Saudi-led coalition has been carrying out air strikes in Yemen since late March against the Houthis and their allies, whose rapid advances forced Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi and his government into exile in Riyadh.

Saudi Arabia is trying to restore Hadi's government.
