Brian Said has left his post as player-coach of St Andrew’s only two weeks after guiding the club to promotion to the BOV Premier League.

The former Malta international broke the news of his departure in a statement on his Facebook page, citing changing circumstances as the reason behind his parting of ways with St Andrew’s.

“Circumstances and situations change and as a result I will be moving on and will not be forming part of St Andrew’s in any role next year,” Said wrote.

Said, 42, exceeded expectations by leading St Andrew’s to the runners-up spot and promotion in his first coaching job.

He and midfielder Joseph Farrugia were the seasoned players in a squad based on homegrown youngsters, including the very promising Matthew Guillaumier, Michael Johnson and Matteo Desira Buttigieg.

“What a great season in my first experience as player-coach,” Said (picture) said.

“Promoted to the Premier Division after 25 years and we achieved that with one of the youngest squads ever and many players who came through the nursery of the club. An achievement that will be difficult to repeat.”

St Andrew’s have lined up Wayne Attard to replace Said. He is set to resign from his post as coach of the Malta Under-19 squad to rejoin St Andrew’s where, for several years, Attard was a key member of their technical staff.

Meanwhile, the Saints, widely regarded as one of the most organised Maltese clubs, have agreed a partnership deal with Swiss-based football consultancy company T11.

T11, who organise regular training camps at the Luxol Stadium, will co-ordinate the St Andrew’s teams in all competitions, from Under-15 upwards.

The coaches and agents working for T11 will also be responsible for the recruitment of foreign players for the senior squad ahead of the start of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign.
