European Studies students from Sacred Heart College, St Julian’s took part in an educational trip to Brussels. They visited the European Parliament, the European Commission and Malta’s representation to the EU among others.

At the European Parliament, Maltese MEPs Miriam Dalli and Therese Commodini Cachia spoke about their work and the committees they are involved in. At the Parliamentarium, the students took part in a ‘role play’ game to better understand the work of MEPs and the Council of Ministers.

At the European Commission, the students met Brian Synnott who works with the Maltese Commissioner Karmenu Vella. He spoke on the role of the European Commissioners and Vella’s portfolio .

The trip helped the students to understand better the EU and the difference between EU institutions and the Maltese Parliament. It also taught them more about their subject and how they can apply their studies to reality and in their future careers.
