A bus strike planned for today has been called off as the dispute between Malta Public Transport and the General Workers’ Union has been resolved.

The GWU had planned to take a series of actions, including a bus strike today, after it claimed the Spanish-owned company had reduced some workers’ wages.

However, in a statement issued yesterday morning, the union said the company had committed itself to pay back the amount due to engineers on May 10 and to drivers on May 17.

The agreement was reached following a lengthy meeting on Thursday afternoon. Both sides also agreed to start negotiating a new collective agreement to conclude negotiations within the next two months.
