The sum of €80,000 will this year be distributed among 25 voluntary organisations to cover the expenses of projects within the community.

Since the launch of the Small Initiatives Support Scheme in 2011, a total of €200,000 has been handed out to organisations for social, educational, environmental, cultural and sport projects.

The projects cost between €1,000 and €3,000 and the scheme is intended to cover expenses for training courses, exhibitions, festivals, setting up electronic sites and publications related to the voluntary sector, among others.

During the launch of this year’s allocation, Social Dialogue Minister Helena Dalli commended voluntary workers, saying that the satisfaction resulting from voluntary work acted as an incentive to keep making a difference to other people’s lives.

The government and the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector are planning to launch training and support schemes for voluntary organisations in the coming days.

A call will be issued in October for projects planned for next year that can benefit from the Small Initiatives Support Scheme.
