The residents of Mensija Road, in San Ġwann have endured this shameful scene of neglect for many years.

Three weeks ago, the perfect opportunity to carry out the necessary work presented itself when the pavement had to be dug up and resurfaced.

Inexplicably and to everybody’s great dismay, the damaged and offending street signage poles remained in their errant positions, completely untouched. Concrete was poured around them as if to make sure they would retain their lopsided poses.

Also untouched remain the awry bollards, ineffective traffic mirror and several unsightly ‘dead’ service cables.

So now the poles are set in stone and remain quite ineffective and immobile, as are the relevant authorities.

The powers that be might also be interested to know that, 100 metres up the road, or even less, prehistoric cart ruts are advertised at considerable expense and busloads of tourists go past this disgraceful intersection. They are sure to be most negatively impressed by what they see. Will they ever visit us again, or recommend us to their friends? Hardly.
