The final verdict in the 2014/15 BOV Division One championship will be known tomorrow when Melita and Gżira United face each other at the Centenary Stadium to decide which team will finish the campaign in third spot.

Last weekend, Melita and Gżira completed their league commitments with the same total of points – 45.

Thus, another fixture is needed to determine which team will face the third bottom side in the Premier League in a promotion/relegation play-off on Friday, May 15.

The Amateurs will left ruing their ill-luck after narrowly failing to make third place their own in their final league fixture against rivals St Andrew’s last month.

Despite being a man down, following the second-half dismissal of Ivan Tufegdzic, Melita still looked on their way to victory when Kane Micallef put them 2-1 ahead with only seven minutes remaining.

But the Saints were determined to mark their promotion with a positive result and hit back to rescue a point deep into stoppage time through a Marigen Sehitaj goal.

The outcome handed an opportunity for Gżira to force a decider with victory over Mqabba in their final game. And the Maroons took the chance with both hands as they chalked up a 2-0 win courtesy of late goals from John Nwoba and Ryan Dalli.

This season, Melita and Gżira have met twice in the league with both teams claiming a win apiece.

The first-round meeting was a thrilling affair with the Amateurs emerging on top 3-2. Gżira took revenge in the return match as they cruised to a 3-1 win.
