Blur’s first album in more than a decade is heading straight for the top of the charts and outselling the rest of the top five put together.

The 12-track album, called The Magic Whip, was announced out of the blue in February and is inspired by the band’s travels in Asia.

Midweek sales figures from the Official Charts Company show the band are set to get their sixth number one album this weekend.

They also suggest Carly Rae Jepsen could be set to score her second number one this weekend with I Really Like You.

The track, from her third studio album, is leading the current chart topper − Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again featuring Charlie Puth − by around 1,000 copies.

Jepsen’s 2012 hit Call Me Maybe has sold more than a million copies in the UK.
