A young man jumped to safety as his car crashed into the sea in Marina Street, Pieta’ at the bend close to the former Sa' Maison Hotel this afternoon.

The incident happened at about 2p.m.

The man, 19, lost control of the Opel Corsa, which crashed over a crash barrier, through railings and into the sea.

He managed to get out in the nick of time but was hospitalised and treated for shock.
