A documentary film maker from New York has recounted the moment an avalanche, that was triggered by the 7.9 magnitude earthquake in Nepal, enveloped him and his crew at the Mt Everest base camp

38-year old Michael Churton was thrown against a rock and appeared to suffer heavy bruising.

The fate of at least one of his other colleagues is not known.

The avalanche was triggered by an earthquake which left some 3,500 people dead.

Churton added that several climbers in his group had gone ahead to Camp One and were not injured.
