WasterServ has opened a new Civic Amenity Site at Ta’ Qali close to the Pitkali, bringing the total number of similar bulky waste disposal sites in Malta and Gozo to six. The sites are facilities where the public can dispose of various types of bulky household waste, domestic hazardous waste as well as recyclable materials.

The new site at Ta’ Qali was inaugurated by the Minister for the Environment Leo Brincat together with WasteServ’s Chairman, David Borg and Chief Executive Officer, Tonio Montebello.

It was co-financed by the EU, as part of a chain of projects financed through similar funds.  

The new Civic Amenity Site boasts of a composter for the on-site enclosed treatment of green waste. A high percentage of good quality compost is expected to be recovered from a total of 650 tonnes per annum of green waste which is generated at the vegetable market Pitkalija and deposited at Ta’ Qali.”

The Ta’ Qali Civic Amenity Site is expected to receive a total of 4,760 tonnes per annum of bulky waste. The Civic Amenity Site includes a weighbridge, a glass crusher, large volume waste compactors, mobile equipment such as fork lifters and shredder for green waste thereby ensuring a clean and modern environment.

Entrance is free of charge and vehicles may be driven directly into the facility avoiding the need for parking. No appointment is required.
