Fgura United 1
Vittoriosa Stars 0

Fgura finished their first season in Division One on a high yesterday after beating Vittoriosa Stars 1-0 with Abeeb Williams scoring the winning goal in an entertaining match at the Luxol Stadium.

Williams had a shot early on going just wide and Vittoriosa hitting back with a Ryan Degiorgio lob that just missed the target.

Williams was very much in evidence for Fgura and on 15 minutes his effort from just inside the box almost had the better of the Stars’ keeper.

Vittoriosa had a golden opportunity to open the score soon after when Degiorgio was pulled down by Terrence Abela and a penalty was given. However, Felipe Canavan saw his spot-kick saved by keeper Ryan Marmara.

Vittoriosa paid dearly for that miss as on 32 minutes Fgura opened the score when Attard nodded the ball into the path of Williams who although closely marked still beat Cauchi with a low drive.

Fgura continued to move forward and could have doubled their lead only for Williams to be foiled by Cauchi who effected a fine save.

Vittoriosa started the second half on attack and with the introduction of Carlos Compagnoli they started to exert more pressure on the Fgura defence.

However, the Stars rarely tested Marmara and Fgura should have sealed their victory late on when Williams released Philip Chircop who missed a sitter from a few metres out.
