The Malta International Fireworks Festival continues this week after its opening displays in Marsaxlokk last night.

This year’s show has attracted competitors from Thailand and Italy, as well as the returning champions from the UK.

Following on from last night’s pyromusical competition, fireworks companies from Qrendi, Mosta and Mġarr (Malta) will on Thursday set off their entries in the national fireworks competition from barges in Grand Harbour.

The show starts at 9pm and the best vantage points will be at Barriera Wharf and Valletta Waterfront. Between displays, maestro Joe Brown and band will perform and the night will end with a pyromusical display by Pyro Emotions Italy.

The finale is on Sunday in Buġibba, where musical acts will get the night going from 6pm.

At 10pm there will be a pyromusical show by the the 2014 winner Pyrotex UK, and a ground fireworks display by local fireworks factories in the Gillieru area will begin at 10.30pm.
