Alfred Conti Borda writes:

It is very sad to hear of the demise of Fr Anton Azzopardi, a great friend and a distant relative of my family.

Fr Anton did sterling work for St Aloysius’ College. Appointed rector from 1965 to 1968 and from 1978 to 1985, he endured the turbulent times in September-November 1984 when the Church schools were facing a crisis. However, together with considerable support from many college sympathisers and friends, he withstood the test of time.

What I liked about Fr Anton was his encouragement for my writing of war articles in this newpaper. Every time an article was printed, he would contact me. I have in my possession the letter he wrote to me after the publication of my first article in 2005 and another expressing his sympathy on the passing away of my dear mother last year.

This Jesuit father was always readily disposed to help people and give sound advice to whoever sought it.

Fr Anton jotted down every event concerning St Aloysius’ College. In fact, he undertook the momentous task of the publication of a set of four very interesting books entitled The Jesuit Schools in Malta.

This is a detailed and analytical account of the history of Jesuit education in this island.

In plain language, Fr Azzopardi was a man for others, fulfilling his life and role as a member of the Society of Jesus, an educator and a priest for the service of mankind. He will long be remembered.

Dear Lord, welcome thy faithful servant Fr Anton into your protective fold.
